In the previous steps, we discussed ending the desecration of the poor, preaching the gospel that uplifts lives, using tithes for welfare, and applying tithes according to God’s command. Now, to complete the path toward restoring the church’s integrity and silencing critics, the fifth step is to understand the Biblical definition of a Levite.
Who Is a Levite According to Scripture?
A Levite is a man who takes God as his inheritance. The Levites were descendants of Levi, one of the twelve sons of Jacob. By divine arrangement, they became a tribe chosen by God to minister before Him.
In Numbers 18:20, God said to Aaron:
“Thou shalt have no inheritance in their land, neither shalt thou have any part among them: I am thy part and thine inheritance among the children of Israel.”
This means that Levites were not landowners, business people, or traders. Their full-time duty was spiritual service — intercession, worship, and ministry before God. Therefore, God commanded the other tribes to give their tithes to the Levites for their upkeep.
Deviation in Today’s Church
Unfortunately, the pattern has changed in modern churches. Many who receive tithes today are business owners, traders, and professionals — not Levites in the biblical sense.
Today, almost anyone can claim to be a prophet, prophetess, or apostle — many driven not by divine calling but by the attraction of tithes and offerings. This trend has diverted many young and talented people from productive sectors into ministry for material reasons, affecting even national economies.
The mishandling of money in the church has made unbelievers skeptical and has fueled accusations that churches are “business centers.” Yet, we can still restore credibility and make Christianity attractive again by returning to biblical order.
Levites and Church Leadership Today
Some church leaders often say, “I don’t touch the tithes; God is the one blessing me.”
But the question remains — if your ministry is funded by tithes, whose inheritance sustains it?
If a ministry built through tithes is passed on to one’s spouse or child, it becomes personal property — and that contradicts divine order. As long as tithes fund projects, buildings, or ministries, the recipients are beneficiaries of tithes and must therefore align with the responsibilities of a true Levite — humility, service, and care for the poor.
However, if businesspeople or professionals also receive tithes, it becomes disorderliness in the spiritual order — a direct violation of God’s structure for the priesthood.
Consequences of Ignoring Divine Order
If this disorder continues, attacks against churches and leaders will not cease. Threats, arrests, or curses cannot solve what disobedience created. Only repentance and restoration of biblical principles can bring peace back to the Body of Christ.
Let the church return to its foundation. Let every Levite — and every leader — walk again in the path of integrity and obedience.
That is how we will make Christianity attractive again.
